Wimbledon will follow the American and Australian Opens in implementing replay systems.
Replay systems are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.
Competitors are granted the right to challenge particular decisions from the chair umpire, echoing the practice already in place at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This step arrives only a year after the AELTC rolled out ELC, which terminated the centuries-old tradition of line judges.
Scope of Challenges
Players cannot to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to review specific situations, such as:
- If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a ball made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Possible hindrance end of a rally.
Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the amount of reviews a competitor can ask for.
Case in Point
A recent incident occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and ruled Draper was responsible for hindrance, granting the rally to his opponent.
Growing Trend
Video reviews are not new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the American major for two years and the Aussie Open this year.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews in place at all of its tournaments.
Other Changes
A further change at The Championships 2025 involves the introduction of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves instances where fans have occasionally been uncertain if a ball was out or in.
Finally, with exactly 100 days remaining until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have further announced an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
